History of GE

Although he eventually held more than 1,000 U.S. patents, Thomas Edison didn’t invent home appliances. By 1889, his business interests attracted the attention of investor J.P. Morgan, and the New York merger that followed gave rise to the Edison General Electric Company in 1896.
